Medical Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award was established in 1986 for outstanding service to the Medical Alumni Association and School of Medicine. An annual selection is made by the MAA Board of Directors upon the recommendation of the awards committee. Recipients receive a pewter tray hand-engraved with a depiction of Davidge Hall and a personalized inscription. The award is bestowed during the annual Reunion.

The following guidelines for selection are applied:

  1. The awardee to be selected on basis of outstanding service to the Medical Alumni Association of the University of Maryland, Inc.
  2. The awardee must be a member of the Medical Alumni Association.
  3. An award need not be given each year.
  4. Except in most unusual circumstances, no more than two persons should receive the award in any one year.
  5. The Board of Directors should act as the selection committee for the awardee.
  6. This responsibility could be delegated to an ad hoc committee on an annual basis, such committee to be composed of members of the Board of Directors and their recommendation(s) would need approval by the full Board of Directors.
