N. Smoot-Haselnus, 85
MedChis First Female
President-Elect
The State Medical Societys first female president-elect is a Maryland
alumna. Catherine Smoot-Haselnus, 85, says shell work with
the state legislature on improving patient safety. The ophthalmologist
says she never thought twice about her career ambitions, having worked
in her fathers medical office while growing up on the Eastern
Shore.

Marylands Mickey
His childhood idol was Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle, and today his handsome
collection of baseball memorabilia combined with an interest in medical
history serves as an outlet for a challenging and sometimes overwhelming
career as an internist, assistant professor and associate dean of admissions
at Maryland. Meet Marylands Mickey, Milford M. Foxwell
Jr., 80.
